Can termites or rodents damage an ICF home?
ICF foam is not a food source for termites, but termites can still tunnel through or around foam to reach anything edible beyond it, and rodents can exploit gaps and unsealed penetrations. Reduced structural wood genuinely lowers what is at stake, but pest resistance comes from detailing, inspection pathways, and ongoing management—not from the material alone.

Termites do not eat expanded polystyrene. They do move through it. Concealed pathways behind below-grade insulation are a recognized concern in termite-prone regions, which is why many jurisdictions have specific requirements for foam near or below grade.
North Texas is active termite territory. That is exactly why this belongs in the design conversation rather than the marketing copy.
What actually reduces risk
- Termite detailing at the slab and foundation interface, per code and local practice.
- A visible inspection gap so activity can be seen before it is extensive.
- Sealed penetrations at every pipe, conduit, and mechanical entry.
- Perimeter planning: grading, drainage, mulch, irrigation, and plant placement.
- Physical or chemical barriers appropriate to the site and jurisdiction.
- An ongoing pest-management relationship after move-in.
A Whitehawk Home should never be described as pest-proof or termite-proof. Removing structural wood from the exterior enclosure changes the consequences of an infestation. It does not make pests impossible.
Questions to ask your builder about pests
- How is foam treated where it meets grade, and what does local code require?
- Is there a visible inspection band, and where is it?
- Who seals penetrations, and is that inspected before closing the wall?
- What barrier system is proposed, and who warrants it?
- What ongoing inspection schedule do you recommend after move-in?

The meaningful difference is not that pests can never enter. It is that the bones of your home are not something they can eat.
